Taika Waititi next project is an adaptation of the 2014 soccer documentary “Next Goal Wins” for Fox Searchlight.
Waititi is set to direct the film while he shall co-write the script with Iain Morris. The project comes from Andy Serkis’ Imaginarium Productions. The production house optioned the documentary by Mike Brett and Steve Jamison back in 2015.

The original documentary showcases the revival story of one of the world’s weakest teams, the national football team of American Samoa, in their bid to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup under the guidance of the Dutch-born, America-based coach Thomas Rongen.

Meanwhile, Waititi’s next project is the satirical comedy “Jojo Rabbit,” which is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and open wide on 18th October.

The “anti-hate satire” revolves around the period of World War II where a lonely German boy — Jojo “Rabbit” Betzler discovers his single mother is hiding a young Jewish girl. Jojo then needs to defy his blind nationalism with the help of a rather weird imaginary friend, an idiotic version of Adolf Hitler.
The film stars Waititi as Hitler and Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo. Moreover, the other top casts include Sam Rockwell, Scarlett Johansson, Rebel Wilson, Alfie Allen, Stephen Merchant, and Thomasin McKenzie.
As far as Waititi’s upcoming projects are concerned, he is set to direct a Marvel Phase 4 film “Thor: Love and Thunder.” The movie will see Natalie Portman returning to the franchise as Thor, Goddess of Thunder alongside Chris Hemsworth. The movie Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to release on November 5, 2021.
